What are cookies

Cookies are small text files placed on your device by a website when you visit a page. They are used to remember your session, store preferences and analyse behaviour on the site. Alongside cookies we use similar technologies such as pixels, local storage and device fingerprinting for specific purposes. Our use of cookies is governed by the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) and UK GDPR, both of which require your consent before any non-essential cookies are placed on your device.

Functional cookies

These cookies are strictly necessary for the platform to operate correctly. They remember whether you are logged in, which language you have selected, which games you have viewed and which preferences you have set. Because they are essential to the functioning of the site, functional cookies cannot be disabled.

Analytical cookies

We use analytical cookies to understand how players interact with the platform: which pages are visited, how long sessions last, and which devices and countries generate traffic. This data is collected in anonymised form and helps us improve the platform. We use Google Analytics 4 with IP anonymisation enabled so that no raw personal data is shared with Google.

Marketing cookies

Marketing cookies enable us to show you relevant offers, both on the Smash platform itself and on third-party websites. You can decline these cookies without any impact on the core functionality of the platform.

Managing your preferences

On your first visit you will see a cookie banner in which you can set your preferences. You can update your choices at any time via the cookie settings link at the bottom of every page. You can also block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Please note that disabling functional cookies will impair your experience on the platform.

Third-party cookies

Some cookies are set by third parties with which we work, including Google Analytics for analytics, payment providers for transaction processing and game suppliers for loading games. These parties have their own privacy and cookie policies, to which we provide links where relevant.

Changes to this policy

We may update this cookie policy periodically to reflect new technologies or changes in applicable law, including PECR and UK GDPR. Material changes will be announced via a banner on the homepage. The most recent update was made in May 2026.

Social media cookies

In addition to functional, analytical and marketing cookies, we set social media cookies when you use sharing buttons or embedded content from platforms such as Facebook, Instagram or X. These cookies are placed by the social media platforms themselves and are subject to their own privacy policies. They allow those platforms to link your visit to your profile, even if you have not actively clicked the button. You can decline social media cookies via the cookie banner, in which case embedded content from those platforms will not be loaded.

Google Analytics and Meta in detail

For website analytics we use Google Analytics 4 with IP address anonymisation enabled and without sharing raw personal data with Google. We have entered into a Data Processing Agreement in accordance with Article 28 of UK GDPR. For advertising measurement we use the Meta Pixel, which tracks conversions following a user's click on a Meta advertisement. Both tools operate exclusively on the basis of consent to marketing cookies. You can opt out via the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on or through the Meta privacy settings in your account.

Affiliate networks

Smash Casino works with several affiliate networks that direct traffic to the platform. When you arrive via an affiliate link, a cookie is set containing a unique partner code and a timestamp. This cookie has a lifespan of thirty days and is used to attribute any subsequent registration to the correct partner. Affiliate cookies contain no personally identifiable information. You cannot selectively prevent affiliate cookies through the cookie banner, but you can disable all tracking in your browser settings.

Local storage and sessionStorage

In addition to traditional cookies we also use the browser's Web Storage API: localStorage and sessionStorage. localStorage persists until you manually clear it or delete your browser data. sessionStorage expires when you close the tab. We use localStorage primarily for game preferences and language settings that we wish to preserve between sessions. sessionStorage is used for temporary game data and form content. Like cookies, these storage mechanisms fall within the scope of PECR and require consent when they are not strictly necessary.

Tracking pixels and web beacons explained

A tracking pixel is an invisible image element of one by one pixel embedded in a web page or email. When the element loads, your browser sends a request to the provider's server containing information such as your IP address, browser type, timestamp and the page you visited. Web beacons operate on a similar principle. We use pixels to measure email campaign performance, landing page effectiveness and conversion following advertisement clicks. Pixels load only when you have consented to the corresponding cookie category, in line with PECR and UK GDPR.

Managing cookies in each browser

Chrome: open Settings, then Privacy and security, then Cookies and other site data. Here you can block third-party cookies and add per-site exceptions. Firefox: go to Settings, then Privacy and Security, then Enhanced Tracking Protection. Choose Strict to block almost all trackers. Safari: go to Settings, then Privacy, and tick Prevent cross-site tracking. Edge: go to Settings, then Cookies and site permissions. In all browsers you can view and manually delete cookies on a per-domain basis using the developer console (F12, Storage tab), including third-party cookies that have already been set.

Questions

If you have questions about cookies or wish to withdraw consent for a particular category, please contact us via live chat or email our Data Officer. We will respond to your request within thirty days.
